DSK Model Searc h 2010

Here's my entry for the DSK Jewelry Model Search 2010...enjoy (and laugh!).

1. Tell us about yourself! Write 1 paragraph to help us get to know you better.

Hey there! I’m Christian (yes, like the religion hehe) and I am new to the blogging world (visit my tiny blog at! I’m originally from Honolulu, Hawaii but am loving living in Los Angeles for the past five years and enjoying everything this city has to offer. I think most people who know me will tell you that I have two passions that have helped mold and “define” me: I absolutely love dance and I love the world of medicine. I’ve been dancing for the past 14 years and have loved everything from ballet, jazz, contemporary, hula, and hip hop. Dance is the artistic expression of myself and all of my friends and family know that I thrive in the spotlight and love being on stage. Alongside dance, I’ve pretty much always knew I wanted to be a physician and have been working hard to make my dreams happen. I’m a 2nd year medical student at UCLA and it is crazy how time flies so quickly! I enjoy talking with people and building long-term relationships, which is why I’ve really been drawn to Primary Care Medicine. In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends because they are so fun and it makes me happy to be around the people I love! Speaking of the people I love, I’ve been blessed to have found a wonderful guy who loves me and makes me feel so special and happy. J I’ve been with my boyfriend Jeff for the past 6 months but it has been long-distance the ENTIRE time since he lives back home in Hawaii while I live here in L.A….definitely something challenging but it’s been worth it every second. In a nutshell, I’m just a girl who enjoys life, is laid-back, and loves girly things…aka DSK Jewelry!

2. Write 1 paragraph about why you would like to represent the DSK brand. Tell us how you learned of DSK Jewelry, what you like about DSK and why you deserve to be the next DSK Jewelry Model.

Just like many other people out there, I learned about DSK Jewelry from the beautiful Holly Ann-AeRee. I started watching Holly’s make up tutorials last Fall and when I was scrolling through her older videos I saw her vids about DSK Jewelry and her always mentioning “DSK Steph”. From seeing her first necklace, the AB Signature Heart, I was immediately drawn to it and found the DSK blog. I loved EVERYTHING I saw on the DSK site and read every old post and every note on the sidebar feeling very impressed that Steph took it upon herself to follow her dreams and put her heart and soul into what she loves. It took a while for me to buy anything at first and I just browsed and oogled for a few months until I couldn’t resist anymore and wanted to invest in a couple of necklaces that I loved because they were so beautiful, elegant, and something special I could wear everyday as signature items. I wear them everywhere and carry the DSK Jewelry business card in my wallet now because I will get compliments from everyone! I would love to be a representative for DSK Jewelry because I truly believe in the company and feel that I relate to Steph’s passion of following one’s dream. It would be an honor to be added to the beautiful DSK Model Team and help promote Steph’s work.

3. Q&A (a-z 26 questions!)

a. What's your name?Nickname? My name is Christian Kitamura. Friends will call me either Chrissy or Chris. I don’t like it when people call me ‘Kristen’ or ‘Christina’ or ‘Christine’…that’s not my name! haha yes I have a boys name but I’ve learned to love it.
b. How old are you? 23 years old.
c. When's your birthday? March 13….I was born on Friday the 13th so now that’s my lucky number!
d. How tall are you? 5’ 2”…like every other Asian girl hehe
e. What is your career? If you're a student, what is your major? I am going to start my 2nd year of medical school. I’m planning to go into Internal Medicine or Family Medicine when I apply for Residency.
f. Are you single? Boyfriend? Girlfriend? Married? Children? It's Complicated? Happily taken…I’ve been with my boyfriend for the past 6 months…but long-distance >_< face="Wingdings"> Yes it was as awesome and wonderful as everyone thinks. I love Hawaii and love my home. I currently live in Los Angeles and have been here for the past 5 years. I do love L.A. too and I think it’s been good for me to live away from home for part of my life.
h. Do have siblings? Nope, I’m an only child.
i. What's your ethnicity? I am 100% Japanese…to be really specific I am 75% Japanese and 25% Okinawan. If you don’t know what that is you can google it…basically Okinawa is part of Japan but the culture is distinct from the rest of Japan and in Hawaii people do distinguish it. It’s the reason why I don’t look like a typical Japanese girl. ;)
j. What's your favorite food? Oooo that is SO TOUGH…I would say I could eat good quality sushi (I’ve been spoiled by my Grandma….I’m really picky about the quality of the fish) or Thai food every day if given the choice.
k. What are 5 words that describe you? Be Creative! Performer, Nerd, Compassionate, Beauty-Addict, Sleep-a-holic…yes I made up my own word, that’s creative right? :P
l. What would the title of your autobiography be? Dance Like No One’s Watching
m. What would you do if a vending machine stole your money? Hah this happens to me all the time L….I stomp the ground, make a huffy sound, blurt out an expletive ;) and walk away thirsty and/or hungry. HAH
n. Do you have a tattoo? Nope. If so, where?! If no, would you get a tattoo? No….I don’t think I could handle the pain!
o. How many piercings do you have? Just two, one on each earlobe….perfect for DSK earrings! ;)
p. What your favorite feature? I would have to say my eyes…got them from my Dad J

What's your least favorite? Hah what a loaded question…I’ll be frank and say my extra “hairy-ness”. LOL Okinawans are known to be hairy and have thick dark hair…while it’s nice to have lots of hair on my head I definitely don’t appreciate the thick arm hair, leg hair, face hair O_O….haha sorry for the overshare.
q. How many languages can you speak, and which ones? Just English….nothing interesting L. I wish I spoke Japanese!
r. What's your zodiac sign? I’m a Pisces and a Rabbit…my boyfriend is a Dog so we fit in the Chinese zodiac! Hee hee
s. What's your dream job? My dream job would be something where I would have a private practice in Primary Care AND also have time to dance or run a dance studio…LOL a girl can dream right?
t. What's your favorite thing to do on the weekends? Anyone in my family and friends will tell you…I LOVE TO SLEEP IN…haha! The weekends are my time to be lazy, catch up on sleep from the week, and enjoy being a sloth. Oh and of course I enjoy doing the occasional shopping trip or going out to eat!
u. Do you have any phobias? I’m scared of snakes…eek! I also have a fear of being a disappointment in life…does that count as a phobia? :P
v. What's your favorite pick up line? K I’ll be nerdy on this one: “If I could be any enzyme I would be DNA Helicase…because I’d love to unzip your GENES.” HAH
w. What's your ring tone? K this is old but I keep forgetting to look for a new one….It’s Kei$ha – “Tik Tok”….okay now you all can laugh *hangs head in shame*
x. What's your favorite song? That is so tough to pick just one…I’ll say that I could listen to “2 is better than 1” by Boys Like Girls over and over again since it’s me and my boyfriend’s “song”. ^_^
y. What makes you laugh? LOTS of things! Seeing funny things (like those Old Spice commercials), hearing funny stories or jokes, and being silly with friends. I laugh every day and I think that’s a good thing.
z. I can't wait till: ________(Fill in the blank) :D I finish medical school and can hopefully move back to Hawaii!

FOTD and a little DSK Jewelry

So here's my attempt at my first Face of the Day (FOTD). Boy this was so much harder than I thought it would be because I SUCK at photography and I can't get good lighting anywhere! Please ignore my cyclops of a pimple but I didn't want to wait too long before I made a new post. I will try to improve my noob photography skills...I don't know how to make my flash work all the time. I swear my make up wasn't as washed out as these pictures are but hopefully you get an idea of a neutral but defined eye.
Products used:
Face: Make Up For Ever HD primer in #0 (Neutral), MUFE HD Liquid Foundation in #125, MUFE HD Powder
Brows: MAC Brow Shader in Walnut (these are discontinued)
Eyes: MAC Paintpot in Painterly as base
All MAC Shadows - Phloof as highlight, Tan PIGMENT on lid, Embark in crease
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline on lid and on waterline
I can't remember which mascara I used, either MAC Plushlash or Dior Iconic (only on top lashes)
Cheeks: MAC Mineralized Duo in Love Rock (thank you Holly Ann-Aeree's blogsale!)
Lips: MAC Lazy Day lipstickI want to bring your attention also to the necklaces I'm wearing! These were bought from DSK Jewelry, which is a line of gorgeous Swarovski crystal jewelry full of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets handmade by the creator Stephanie Nguyen. You can view and purchase her pieces on her website Her pieces are simple but ultra classy and pretty, all made with authentic Swarovski crystals, pearls, 14k gold, and sterling silver.

The first 2 pics show the Bermuda triple necklace while these pics here are the Moon & Starfish. Sorry for the pic spam but it's hard to capture how sparkly/multi-colored and faceted these are!

This is what I wore today going to work at the Doctor's Office. The shirt is from Express and I just thought the Bermuda triple necklaced matched so neatly with the colors!

Hope that your Wednesday went well! I will do another post of my DSK earrings tomorrow and hopefully attempt another beauty-related post if I figure out some semi-decent lighting. Take care!

Happy Father's Day!

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday and also a great Father's Day! Unfortunately, this is probably the first Father's Day in a long time that I haven't been able to celebrate with my Dad. This is my first summer staying here in LA and I won't be able to go back home to Hawaii until August.
I love my Dad and we've had a great relationship all my life. Being an only child, I was definitely "Daddy's Princess" and still share a close bond with him. While I wasn't spoiled (he was actually VERY STRICT), he definitely makes me feel like I make him proud and I do feel like he'll always see me as his "little baby girl" no matter how old I get.

My Dad has a great sense of humor and he's very smart, like science and math type smart, and I think I get my love of science from him. He is also a CRAZY GOOD singer! He used to be the lead singer for several bands when I was born and I remember going to see him perform when I was like 6 years old or so. I wish there was an audio clip or YT video I could post here...he seriously sounds like Phil Collins when he sings. I think I probably get my love of the stage and performing from him...but definitely not his actual singing talent (I love karaoke but I suck)! Everyone says I look like my Dad :P but I think as I get older I'm starting look more like my Mom? Hah I'm not sure, my looks have changed over the years as you can see from these pictures.
Now that I'm older, I keep in touch with my Dad through texting and BBM (Blackberry messenger). I kinda get a kick out of it and people think it's weird but hey my Dad is just cool and hip like that. We definitely have fun whenever he comes and visits me in LA because he has AMAZING tastes in food (he cooks gourmet style) and we love trying out new restaurants...but of course we always still visit our FAVORITE sushi restaurant in Little Tokyo in Downtown LA, Oomasa Restaurant. I recommend that everyone try it out if you want authentic, FRESH tasting sushi and sashimi for a great price. It's not fancy or trendy; it's just a small but very busy Japanese restaurant that serves classic dishes but we just sit at the sushi bar and order nigiri or sashimi all night ^_^.
I feel like my Dad is a good friend and I still always go to him for advice about shopping for major stuff like electronics, or what to do about my car, or how to cook something! :) I wish I could have spend the weekend at home but for now I'll just have to accept a phone call and sending a card. I love you, Daddy and Happy Father's Day!

(Btw, excuse these not so photogenic pictures...they're kind of old and were the only ones I could find on my laptop! >_<)

My debut

Hello blogger world, this will be the start to a random hobby. What better time to start than during the summer? I'm kind of laughing at myself right now because this totally reminds me of those days?? That was AGES ago and oh how I remember those nights of random stress posts, the woes of high school life and the trials and tribulations of sorting out heartbreak, mean girls, and figuring out this thing called life. ;)

Not that I don't have those silly stresses anymore...but at least I can assure myself that I'm slightly more comfortable in my own skin than I was back in high school! Life is definitely more complicated but I've learned to roll with the punches and try to stay always helps having good shoulders to lean on, addictive TV marathons, and a tub of chocolate ice cream :)

I will try not to ramble TOO MUCH...but I will warn you that I'm not the best writer >_<...I'm a big fan of random emoticons...and I have a habit of using these three dots over-excessively...<--see?! I think they represent a pause like when I'm speaking? Hah who knows? But anyways, I will try to take more pictures, keep things interesting, and share about my loves/obsessions/life anecdotes. :) I'd like this to be somewhat of a beauty blog (as those are my current obsessions right now :D) mixed in with some dance (my first love) and topped off with whatever I damn feel like writing about. There may be some sappy love stuff rolled in since I am blessed to have found the love of my life ^_^ but sadly we are still doing long distance since he's back at home in Hawaii >_<. I can't WAIT till he's here in LA with me next year! Okay, I think that's enough for now. Until next time, I'll leave you with some random photos of my loves :)
The bf Jeff:
We don't mind being silly!

<3 D.A.N.C.E...boy do I miss it *sigh*

Hah me and my make up...look at that determination! ;)
